For the past three decades since the founding of Northeastern Geology and Environmental Sciences I have enjoyed thoroughly serving as its founder and Editor. It is now with great sadness that I must inform you that this is the final issue of our journal. I sincerely wish that we could continue it, however, a number of factors and realities which are out of our control simply prevent that.

Our journal has presented many excellent papers over the years, promoting scholarship and education. However, rising costs and other conditions have forced the majority of the Board to call for the discontinuation of this journal after its long and distinguished history - much to my heartbreak. In order to incorporate all the papers into this last issue, I have extended the publication date until now. After thirty years I feel that the goal of this regional journal for the northeastern United States has been fulfilled.

Therefore, regretfully, with this issue we must say “good-bye” to our journal, but not to its many friends --- its loyal subscribers, its other readers and users, the long list of its many contributing authors, volunteer reviewers, editorial staff, and our many other colleagues and supporters. My wife Sue and I, Anne M. Woods, and the members of the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Science Foundation all want to take this opportunity to convey our heart-felt thanks to you and wish you the best in all of your professional endeavors and personal lives. Please keep in touch.

Sincerely yours,

Gerald M. Friedman, Ph.D., Sc.D.
